River Bank Protection

Mexico, La Antigua

The village of La Antigua, located in the coastal plains of the state of Veracruz on the Rio La Antigua, is the oldest Spanish settlement in Mexico. Traditional methods of increasing the heights of the berms and dykes along the shoreline and placing imported rock armor protection were cost prohibitive. Therefore, ConAgua engineers were searching for alternatives to the traditional designs and materials to protect the property and the economy of this historical village.

TenCate Geotube® containers fabricated with GC1200MG durability engineered composites were selected because they provide robust abrasion resistance fiber surface that has the ability to entrap sand and sediments to allow for vegetation to be established over time.
